The program in detail:
The Institution Casa Hogar Francisco Gabilondo Soler is a public social assistance agency of the government of the state of Colima, it welcomes children sometimes very young (babies) up to 16 years old.
Some of the children were abandoned by their families and sometimes sexually abused at a very young age. They are therefore placed by the government while waiting to be eventually adopted. They are fed, housed and educated. But, if the government intervenes for food and housing, it intervenes little for schooling, paying only for the uniform and the teachers.
So there is little help for school and absolutely no extracurricular activities. Griselda Cruz takes care of the children after school, she makes sure they have eaten well, helps them with their homework and keeps them busy as best she can until bedtime. Her husband is the coach of the Colima badminton team, he came one Wednesday afternoon with his players to entertain the children who really loved this sport.
Deyanira Chiñas, a long-time friend of Solibad, asked for our help so that these children could play badminton regularly. So we decided to send rackets, nets, shuttlecocks and shoes knowing that there is a responsible adult to take care of the equipment and ensure its proper use. 39 children aged 6 to 13 were, at first, very interested in badminton, we bet that others will follow.
The goal of this program is, as with Gravata in Brazil, to help children "forget" their difficult past through sports. In addition, we will also send money for school materials and other necessary supplies. Depending on the needs of course. Deyanira and the manager on site will regularly report on the situation.
